IP Marketplace for Commercializing Intellectual Property Products

In supporting the commercialization of Indonesian intellectual property (IP) products, the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) of the Indonesian Ministry of Justice and Human Rights launched the Intellectual Property Marketplace (IP Marketplace).
IP Marketplace is a platform for IP owners to promote their IP products to potential buyers or investors both national and international. There are three stages of the IP ecosystem consisting of creation, protection, and commercialization which is an inseparable chain. For this reason, after the protection, the next stage is the commercialization of IP.
Currently, the Indonesian IP owners of trademarks, patents, industrial designs, or copyrights are only protecting their IP and usually have limited access to commercialize it. It has to be noted that the commercialization stage is also important and needs to be implemented by the Indonesian government to reach middle-income levels through the concept of the digital economy. This is also in line with Government Regulation No. 24 of 2022 concerning Regulations for Implementing Law Number 24 of 2019 concerning the Creative Economy which was just enacted on July 12, 2022.
This platform is integrated to connect directly IP owners with potential buyers or investors in the marketplace. Later on, the platform will also include the complete IP owner’s information. IP owners, potential buyers, or investors who are interested in the IP Marketplace, can access the platform on the marketplace.dgip.go.id page.
The national IP ecosystem is formed not only based on networks and collaboration with Indonesian institutions/ministries but also needs to provide instruments of regulations regarding IP protection and more tangible programs for the needs of creators/inventors.
One of the instruments is by conducting massive IP socialization through the “DGIP Teaching Program” which will be delivered by IP trainers from the officials of the Indonesian Ministry of Justice and Human Rights. This teaching program, which will take place simultaneously in 33 provinces, will provide interesting activities for the students from elementary, junior, and high schools so that they are familiar with IP from an early age. Moreover, DGIP also planned to develop the “Intellectual Property Academy” which will be located at the DGIP Tangerang Office.
